Sudoku =/= soduko

Journal Entry: Sun Jun 8, 2008, 6:04 AM

I've decided I'm going to use my DA blog on a more regular basis. And I'm kicking it off with a minor rant:

I don't get why a lot of westerners can't pronounce the word 'sudoku' properly. I mean, most of the Japanese sounds are pronounced exactly as they would be in English. How hard can it be? Just sound the damn word out: soo-doh-kuu. People manage to pronounce those freaky Chinese and Vietnamese and Thai words with the seemingly random variations in tone, but not a simple word like sudoku, which is spelt phonetically. Maybe someone, somewhere along the line, got their o and u sounds mixed up and then it just stuck. I just don't get it.

I hate that too, it's not hard to spell words properly, and it's also easier for the reader to understand the message. Damn youth.

lot of people, like me, don't really know wtf sudoku is so we really don't care how it's pronounced. ;) Looking at the word, it seems like it's pretty easy to pronounce. But before really looking at the word spelled out, I woulda pronounced it a half dozen different ways.
